Bregje Korthals Altes

Bregje specialises in international commercial arbitration and arbitration-relation court proceedings at the Dutch state courts, and has been recognized as one of the future leaders in Who’s Who Legal Arbitration 2020. In the nearly 20 years that she has been practising as counsel, she has advised and represented many different clients from all over the globe in complex and high-stakes disputes. Her experience spans a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, mining and minerals, and health tech. Common theme in all her cases is they all require a thorough understanding of – often highly complex – technical issues, in addition to a full command of the facts and legal theories. Bregje frequently operates in multidisciplinary teams and enjoys working together with industry experts. Based on her interest in technology as well as in the specific dynamics in public-private relationships, Bregje has also gained broad experience in European Procurement Law as counsel and lecturer. In this particular area, she regularly assists both public, utility and private sector clients in contentious and non-contentious matters, preferably in connection with innovative strategies. Before joining Ysquare in 2020, Bregje was partner in the litigation and arbitration group of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek for many years. She was also seconded to Schiphol National Airport and worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hague. Since 2018 she is a member of the board of the Netherlands Arbitration Institute.
